Google Android P will Natively Support Iris Recognition and Allow Third-party Application Calls


GuGe I/O 2018 developer conference has been confirmed to be held from May 7 to 10, when Google will share the latest development of Android P(Android 9.0), such as code name, function, release time, etc. The latest news is that Android P will support iris recognition technology.

According to media reports, Google is using the HAL interface to allow Android system to integrate iris recognition and allow third-party application calls. This feature is likely to be implemented in Android P.

Iris recognition technology can offer the user more secure encryption guarantee through the uniqueness of iris texture and difficulty to replicate. It is important to note that currently only Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+, MI 6, Huawei P10 support iris recognition. When phones get native support for Android, there will be more phones that support iris recognition.
